Ohio State Senator Tom Patton Honors Son, Thomas F. Patton, II

For Tom Patton, service is more than a calling—it is a legacy rooted deeply in family, sacrifice, and community.

A lifelong resident of Cuyahoga County, Senator Patton was raised on Cleveland’s near west side as one of nine children. He is the son of a Cleveland police officer—a role that shaped his understanding of duty, discipline, and the realities of life in public service from an early age. Watching his father serve the community instilled in him a deep respect for those who wear the badge.

That legacy of service carried into the next generation. Senator Patton’s son, Thomas F. Patton II, followed in his grandfather’s footsteps, becoming a Cleveland Heights police officer. Tragically, Officer Patton lost his life in the line of duty after suffering a heart attack while assisting in the pursuit of a suspect—an ultimate sacrifice made in service to others.

The weight of that loss is immeasurable, but it has only strengthened Senator Patton’s commitment to honoring those who serve. Throughout his time in public office, he has championed legislative initiatives supporting police officers, firefighters, and first responders—ensuring their sacrifices are recognized and their needs are addressed.

In a meaningful gesture of support, Blue Line Unlimited made a donation to the scholarship fund established in Officer Patton’s name—helping to carry forward his legacy by supporting future generations and honoring his service in a lasting way.

Despite his growing responsibilities in Columbus, Senator Patton has remained grounded in what matters most: family and community. His story is one of generational service—a father who served, a son who gave his life in the line of duty, and a public servant who continues to fight for those who stand on the front lines.

In honoring both his father’s influence and his son’s sacrifice, Senator Patton carries forward a powerful legacy—one defined by courage, commitment, and an unwavering dedication to others.
